HORATION N. EGGLESTON: LEFT SOUTH WHEN WAR BEGAN Horation N. Eggleston was from Massachusetts and was engaged in railroad building. His first business in Seymour was the laying of the Naugatuck Railroad from Seymour to Winsted. He had contracts on railroads in many areas of the eastern seaboard.
When the Civil War erupted, he was working on a railroad in Virginia, living in Leesburg. He fled the area to return to the north.
He worked for C. French for many years, originally as a traveling agent for the car spring works
He was active in Trinity Church.
Generally respected and liked by his townspeople, he was elected in 1873 to serve as representative of Seymour in the General Assembly.
He died on April 1, 1893, at the age of 65.
