Terrell was an ardent supporter of
the
Democratic party, and in 1895 he represented Beacon falls in the State
Legislature. At the age of 29, he was then one of the youngest members
of that body. In addition, Terrell served locally as town treasurer and
was appointed postmaster at Beacon Falls in 1896. He served as Town
Clerk in 1889 and 1890 and from 1896 to 1900. He was also a member of
the Board of Relief and the Beacon Falls School Board as well as tax
collector for three years.

POPE
John B. Pope
was a first selectman of the Town
of Oxford and also represented the town in the State Legislature. He
also served as a member of the Board of Relief.
Pope was born in Roxbury on July 13, 1842, his
family coming to Oxford when he was one year old. He was educated in
the public schools of Oxford and became a farm worker at the age of
nineteen. In 1865 he married Jane M. Nichols. Together they had eleven
children, including a son, Charles Pope, who later served as first
selectman of Oxford.
