Sarah RIGGS

1B. H. Davis, Reminiscences of Oxford Homes and People (Seymour Record - 1913), Chapter 5. . "  A little north of the Beecher place we come to another old landmark known as the Aunt Sarah Riggs place.  Like most of the old time residences on Chestnut Tree Hill it shows signs of dilapidation. It was built, as near as I can learn in the year 1780, and was occupied for half a century by a maiden lady whose acts of charity and philanthropy gave her the name of Aunt Sarah. She was a great favorite with the children of the community and she always had a kind word and a pleasant smile for everyone. She was a friend to everybody and many a weary traveler has found shelter under her roof. I do not know the date of her death as I was very young, but I remember that when she was laid to rest in the Pinesbridge cemetery those who attended, their eyes bedimmed with tears that did honor to her memory." http://www.our-oxford.info/davis-reminiscences/Davis-05.html.

George THOMAS

1B. H. Davis, Reminiscences of Oxford Homes and People (Seymour Record - 1913), Chapter 9. . "
Retracing our steps to the Enos Chatfield corner and following the road toward the center, we pass through a very picturesque region, interspersed with meadow, orchard and forest, until we come to the foot of the hill, to a place known to the older people as the Thomas place.  This house was built by George Thomas many years ago, long before my memory."

James ROSS

2B. H. Davis, Reminiscences of Oxford Homes and People (Seymour Record - 1913), Chapter 10. . "
The next place we come to is the home of James Ross who recently purchased a bungalow on land purchased of R. G. Robinson, and is known as the hermit of Riggs Street, as he is hardly ever seen beyond the environments of his own domicile. He is of a quiet unassuming nature and does not care to mingle with the busy scenes of the hill borough."
