 ... That is to say in the winter as he believed 1777 he was drafted & detached from the Company of Militia of said Oxford then forming part of the Town of Derby to perform a tour of 2 months service and was ordered to Newfield as it was then called, where he joined a company under the command of Capt. Daniel Holbrook & served with said company at Newfield, Stratford, Milford & New Haven where he was discharged at the expiration of said two months, which he thinks was in the Spring of the year.
  In the same year afterwards, as he believes in September 1777 he was drafted ... for a tour of duty of one month which he performed under the command of Lieutenant Ranford Whiting. ... In the same year he was required by acting Conxxxxy Thomas Horsey to transport one load of provisions continental stores to Newtown in Fairfield County which took up four days in going & returning & two loads to Woodbury now Southbury which employed him 2 days each making the whole eight days. ...
  In August & September 1778 He performed a tour of duty for two months at Milford having been again drafted for that purpose His Captain was now ---- Peck of Milford (he does not recollect his first name) and Thaddeus Baldwin of Derby was Ensign. Having finished this tour & returned home he was instantly ordered back & detained another month, before other troops came out & relieves this company. They were stationed along the shore as guards.
  In the face of the next year 1779 he served two months at New Haven being drafted & ordered there David Daggett was Captain of the company in which he served. Nathan Pearsons of Derby was Lieutenant. & one [Peitro], (whose first name he does not recollect) was that of the Ensign was orderly Sergeant. They were stationed in the City of New Haven & served as guards during said term.
  The applicant was several times ordered out on Sudden Alarms during the war. But he cannot particularly specify. Sometimes he was detained no longer than to get part of the way to Milford & sometimes a few days.
  He was born in Derby in that part which is since the town of Oxford on the 16th day of December 1760 & has always lived in said town. He states that he is acquainted with Deacon John Carrington & Captain Alsa Bunnell of Derby & Rev Ashbel Baldwin of Oxford & Capt Job Candee of the same town who will testify to ... his service as a soldier of the revolution.
