IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH The Immanuel Lutheran Church was organized in 1892 in Seymour, and formerly occupied a site on West Street in that town, although its new building is on Great Hill, Oxford.
The first building was erected in 1894 under the leadership of Pastor R.C. Lucas, who was succeeded by Pastor Meuller. In 1899, under Pastor Lemke, the Trinity Lutheran Church of Shelton was organized in 1899. Thereafter the two churches were one parish served by the resident Seymour Pastor.
During the pastorate of Pastor Konrad, a parsonage was built on West Church Street, Seymour.
In July, 1942 the enlarged and renovated building on West Street, Seymour was dedicated.
In 1964, the Trinity of Shelton separated from the Seymour parish and Pastor Otto Borchert became the full time pastor in Immanuel, Seymour. In September of that year St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ansonia merged with the Seymour church, with half of the membership joining Trinity of Shelton and the others joining Immanuel of Seymour.
A new Parish Building was dedicated in June 12, 1966 on Great Hill Road, Oxford, as the initial stage of developing the church in Oxford.
Three acres of land were donated for the church by Mr. and Mrs. Hubert E. Stoddard, and two more were purchased by the Ladies' Aid for the parish.
